Why are the majority of Americans clueless as to the impending economic collapse?

The economy is on the verge of hyperinflation, the foreclosure rate is skyrocketing, unemployment is going through the roof, crime is spiraling out of control, the country is a pressure cooker with no vent which is about to blow, and the majority of people walk around as if everything is hunky-dory. What's the story with that?
